“UCR has a tradition of serving students like me, first in their family to go to college. And a lot of that would not happen without scholarships, and so that was an area that was easy for me to choose to work in given my background in education, and also what a scholarship meant to me.”

"It is very generous of [donors] to invest in scientific endeavors that could open a new horizon... That is what the Leibachers have done for me, to empower me to find exciting data that, hopefully, will change the path of drug discovery using plants as a platform."

“I want to thank you for your contribution. As a non-traditional student who is paying their own way through medical school, I immensely value your help. Finances were one of the most intimidating factors when I was deciding whether I would be able to attend medical school. You help makes my dream possible, and I can’t thank you enough.”

"I'd like to teach writing at the university level, develop myself as an author, and work within prison systems and juvenile halls to develop writing workshops for those within the system. This scholarship has reaffirmed my decision to pursue a field in the arts. I've heard many times the impracticality of my dreams. Receiving honors for the work I do, work centered around my culture and people like me, always gives me the motivation to continue... I'm eternally grateful for this award and the donors who made it possible."
